Over the last few months, All of Marcus's work for Williams Sonoma has started to appear in the pre and now Summer catalogs in both Prop Styling and Art Direction. Largely Grilling spreads, Marcus got to work with fave Photographers Anna Williams and Romulo Yanes.  

While Marcus was Art Directing he got to work with the ever lovely Prop Stylist Suzie Meyers and I'm sure you'll all agree, amazing Food Styling by George Delose

Shooting in San Francisco, It's always fun to shoot Summer spreads knowing that the season will be on it's way, As we all kick back on Memorial Day, We know Summer is finally here, We hope you all had a great long weekend!

Williams Sonoma/ How to set a Holiday table like a Stylist/ Taste Blog

It was such a honor for Marcus to be asked by Williams Sonoma to contribute to their Taste blog in an article "How to set a Holiday table like a Stylist" 

This copy accompanied Marcus's image plus many more great images by Marcus's fellow Stylist friends and workmates: A creatively set holiday table does more than provide great Instagram fodder for you and guests – it can set the mood for the entire party, start a conversations between guests, and let you share a bit of your personal style with everyone at the table.

For inspiration, we turned to a dream team of Williams-Sonoma stylists, who make it their job to set beautiful tablescapes for photo shoots and parties. From clever DIYs to nature-inspired centerpieces, here are some of their best ideas for setting a striking holiday table.

We created our table using the Open Kitchen range, Not with the food, necessarily, but with the décor: A twig or branch tucked into a napkin ring, a bundle of fresh herbs to freshen each place setting, or a homemade “runner” of everygreen foliage will do the trick. “It can feel freshly plucked from the garden and really natural, in addition to adding a fresh fragrance,” says Marcus

Working on September Catalog's means embracing Fall, acknowledging that little snap of cold in the air, watching the leaves start to crinkle. Fall in America is a very beautiful season and while we shoot most Fall projects in the height of Summer, It's still nice to get your head around a season that is often associated with holidays like Thanksgiving.

SMH, Inc had a number of weeks in San Francisco belting out beautiful images for Williams Sonoma Cooks that can be seen here and will be featured in the following months as we head towards the holidays.

It was so nice to be able to work with some new working relationships, We loved working with Photographers Sharyn Cairns and Erin Kunkel as well as our fave Romulo Yanes.

For Williams Sonoma Summer, It’s always nice to shoot it where it’s warmer all year anyhow to get into the spirit of sunshine and happy days, Escaping the dead of winter in NY for the more palatable west coast allowed SMH, Inc to work on some great images for the new catalog featuring a very appetizing cocktail on the cover was a pleasure.

This time we were focused on Styling, Continuing with their melamine collection, we have some more versions of that series profiled here, taking a very graphic approach on a lovely zinc surface. Wedding registries and baking pages galore and a fun lemonade party where we worked with two delightful girls, creating a garden, lemonade stand and wardrobe. Was a lot of fun for American Girl. You can’t see it, but there is some very lovely 10 x 10 feet sod beneath their feet the best quality California has to offer!

These images ended up in the main catalog but also in a mini Gift catalog also.

For the last couple of catalogs this season, Studio Marcus Hay, Inc has been busy once again over on the West Coast for Williams Sonoma Cooks in both Styling and Art Directing capacities.

In our classic graphic style for the brand, we have created a series of images including melamine, bbq tools, bbq grill pans, wine glasses and bathroom/kitchen products.

It's so much fun to work with the bright colors of the season pairing it with classic zinc and marble. 

SMH, Inc is about to head back over to San Francisco later this month to work on the latest catalog in production, Look at for that work soon!

For the Spring catalog for Williams Sonoma Cooks, Studio Marcus Hay worked on both Styling and for some spreads the Art Direction also producing spreads for a variety of different products including their new range of Williams Sonoma soaps and lotions. Others were glassware, melamine and Duraclear outdoor table ware and also BBQ tools. You can really feel the warmer seasons upon us especially when working on spread s like these.
