Ophelia Sable Le Blank grew up in Oak Park. Her desire to live in a home designed by Frank Lloyd Wright spurred on an interest in architecture at a young age.
With dreams of attending architecture school, she instead settled in New York, attracted to the mood of the ‘60s. Her jet black bob and big charcoal eyes made an impression at a fashion magazine where she began working in the Art Department, building her way up to the esteemed position of Director.
Now partly retired, she still dabbles in design, holding classes at a prominent design school. She likes her coffee black and her cocktails strong. You might see her signature black bowler hat make an appearance when the mood is upon her.
New York Stories are inspired by the eccentric older women of New York. Imagining the interiors of these fictional characters, we explore how they came to move to the city, and the objects that tell their story.
